Thank you from Keech Hospice Care

“A huge thank you to Steve and Ricky who worked tirelessly to put on another great Retro Play event this year. It was an incredible day and we are so grateful that they chose to support Keech Hospice Care, raising vital funds and great awareness in aid of their local hospice.

As a charity, we provide free, specialist care for adults and children with life-limiting and terminal illnesses as well as vital support for their family and friends. Our emotional and physical support aims to help patients be independent, stay at home and live well for as long as possible.

Steve, Ricky and a whole host of characters visited the hospice in the summer and treated some of the children to a day of fun. Playing golf in the garden with Stormtroopers, meeting Batman and playing with Princess Leia; the children and their families had a great time. And on one of the hottest days of the year, we were very grateful for their time and effort. Three-year-old Darcey was at the hospice with her Dad, Paul who said: "The family days that Keech Hospice Care organise are just epic! Every child, and every family deserves happiness and excitement in their lives even when things look bleak. The visit from Retro Play was amazing! Everyone got to meet some amazing iconic characters from Star Wars and a very good Batman! Darcey (once she warmed to the idea of what was happening) was especially in her element (not often you get to see a dot of three year old telling towering stormtroopers how to play golf!) and it’s those moments that count and make the world not such a frightening place.”

Sunday 8 September – festival day! What a great day it was! Incredibly organised, fantastically supported and top-class characters! A huge thank you to everyone involved; the cars, the characters, the vendors, the volunteers and of course all the visitors on the day. Every penny of the £2,082* raised will help us to continue making the difference when it matters the most for our patients and their families. We rely on our supporters for around 70% of our funding. This means we need to raise around £6 million every year to continue our specialist care for children and adults, and their families. We’re enormously grateful for the support of Retro Play 2019.

As well as the fantastic fundraising, some of the children who we care for and their families were invited to Retro Play and they had a great time. Daniel, Esme’s Dad said “What a fantastic day! Esme, her sister and I got to meet Bumblebee the Transformer which was amazing. I can’t thank Retro Play enough for creating such a special day which our family will remember forever.” Thank you once again for the truly fantastic support from RetroPlay this year and we very much look forward to your next visit!”
